Abstract:

Casting of Titanium Alloys can be done with different primary, intermediate, and backup layer shell materials. Usually, the tradeoff is between material cost and as cast part quality. This paper discusses the advantages and disadvantages of various shell materials for casting titanium alloys. Foundry methods and equipment are also discussed because these are also important in the casting of Titanium. A comparison of alpha case depth with various shell systems is given.
