Abstract:
Metal filtration practices in the investment casting industry are reviewed. The use of cellular and reticulated foam ceramic filters as well of ceramic mesh filters are discussed with respect to their ability to capture slag, establish favorable flow conditions during shell filling, and assist in casting degating. Recent developments and practices for improving filter and filtration effectiveness are discussed.
